"Alaska was a land without mercy..."
β David Lomax, Trail of Thoughts
David Lomax is the author of Trail of Thoughts, a true Alaska survival memoir inspired by his experiences working in remote Alaskan villages from his early teens onward. Through hardship, isolation, loss, and resilience, he shares a rare firsthand account of life in some of Alaska's most remote communities. The book became an Amazon Top New Release in 2025 and has been translated into seven languages.
A lifelong adventurer, licensed pilot, outdoorsman, and educator, David spent decades exploring Alaska's backcountry, flying bush planes, fishing remote waters, and working in villages accessible only by air, river, or seasonal routes. His memoir blends frontier adventure with personal reflection and lessons learned from a lifetime in Alaska's remote frontier.
David has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who and featured in The Wall Street Journal. He has also appeared on Living The Next Chapter Podcast and The Trauma Therapist Podcast, discussing the real-life experiences behind Trail of Thoughts and the enduring lessons of adversity and resilience.
The decision to publish Trail of Thoughts was inspired by David's beloved son, Robert, whose encouragement gave him the confidence to share his story. One of the memoir's most meaningful chapters, Chapter 20 β "My Beloved Son," reflects Robert's profound influence on his life.
David is equally grateful to his wife, Marcela, whose unwavering love, support, and dedication helped bring the book to readers around the world, including her work translating Trail of Thoughts into Spanish.
Today, David enjoys spending time at his Gold-Rated private retreat in Sunriver, Oregon, near Bend, Mt. Bachelor, and Crane Prairie Reservoir. There he continues to reflect, explore the outdoors, and share his passion for adventure, education, and personal growth.
Through Trail of Thoughts, David seeks to preserve a unique chapter of Alaska history while encouraging others to face life's challenges with courage, perseverance, and resilience.
